Baseball To Close Out Regular Season Versus North Alabama

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb baseball is set to close out its regular season this weekend with a three-game series versus North Alabama at Dugan Field.

The series is an important one for the Bisons (27-23, 11-10 ASUN) as it will have an impact on seeding for the ASUN Championship. Lipscomb currently sits in fifth place with Stetson and Kennesaw State just two games behind. The top-six teams in the conference make the tournament.

Lipscomb and North Alabama will hit the diamond to begin the series on Thursday at 6 p.m. Friday’s contest will also start at 6 p.m., while the series finale on Saturday will have a 1 p.m. start time.

Saturday’s game will also be the announcement of the 2019 Dugan Award winner. There will be a brief ceremony before the matchup to honor this year’s winner.

All three games will have live stats available and will be broadcast on ESPN+.

  • This will be the first ever meeting between the two ball clubs at the Division I level.
  • North Alabama has an overall record of 16-35 and sit in eighth place in the ASUN standings with a conference record of 7-13.
  • The Lions came up short in their midweek matchup at Auburn and lost 8-7 in 11 innings.
  • Ben Kiefer boasts one of the top-bats in the UNA lineup. The junior catcher has a batting average of .301 and ranks second on the team with 49 hits on the season.
  • The Lions post a team ERA of 6.14 and are led by reliever Bryant Claunch. Claunch leds the Lions with a record of 5-1 and a 3.27 ERA over 55.0 innings of work.

  • The Bisons come into the contest losing their first conference series in their last four tries after coming away with just one win at Liberty last weekend.
  • Lipscomb boasts an impressive home record of 21-9 on the season.
  • Maddux Houghton continues to be one of the top-bats in the ASUN with an average of .328, which leads Lipscomb and ranks fourth in the conference.
  • Tevin Symonette has been on a power surge as of late. The senior has hit five of his seven home runs over the past 10 games.
  • Chris Kachmar was named the ASUN Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week after tossing his second straight complete game in a 9-1 victory over Liberty.

Stetson will host the ASUN Championship next week. The tournament will be from May 22-25 and the Bisons will need some wins as well as losses from Stetson and Kennesaw State to secure their spot.
