Bisons lose slugfest with Michigan 17-14

Lipscomb and Michigan fought a battle of the bats.

In the end the Bisons came up on the losing end, falling 17-14 in their second game of the Caravelle Resort Classic hosted by Coastal Carolina at Watson Stadium in Conway, S.C.

The Bisons scored the most runs in a game this season, but they also allowed the most runs in game as well as the most hits. The Bisons managed 11 hits while Michigan pounded out 19.

Michigan opened the game with 10 runs in the first inning. They added four in second. In the third and the fourth they added one run each.

The Bisons fought back with six runs in the third, three in the fourth and two each in the fifth and sixth. They added one more in the seventh.

Right-hander Dannie Strable started for the Bisons, but lasted only one-third of an inning. He gave up five hits and eight runs, all earned. He walked three and struck out one.

Matt Bowling, a right-hander, relieved Strable. He gave up two more runs in the first. He lasted 4.2 innings, giving up 11 hits and also giving up eight runs, all earned. He walked two and struck out seven.

Right-hander Mike Grace took over for Bowling. In four innings he allowed only one run and three hits. He walked one and struck out four.

Third baseman Cory Hale hit two home runs for the Bisons. He led the Bisons with three hits. He tied for the team game high in RBI in a game with five. His two home runs and nine total bases are both team game highs.

Second baseman Kyle Henry hit his first home run of the season. The three home runs by the Bisons and the 13 RBI are both team game highs.

The Bisons are closing out the tournament today with Ball State.
