Bisons close out tournament with 14-5 loss to Ball State

The Lipscomb Bisons again connected for 11 hits, including a fourth inning grand slam by Ryan Wilkins, but lost 14-5 to Ball State in their final game Saturday evening at the Caravelle Resort Classic hosted by Coastal Carolina.

They also collected 11 hits earlier in the day in a 17-14 loss to Michigan at Watson Stadium in Conway, S.C.

The Bisons switched to BB&T Coastal Field in Myrtle beach, S.C. for the game.

After Ball State scored two runs in both the second and third innings, the Bisons tied the game on the one-out grand slam by Wilkins. He also had a double to center in the sixth inning.

In the fifth the Bisons took a 5-4 lead. Lee Wilson led off with a bunt single. Tyler Wilson followed with a single through the right side. M.L. Williams moved each one of the Wilsons up base with a sacrifice bunt. Lee Wilson scored on passed ball.

Cory Hale continued to have a hot bat for the Bisons. He had three hits against Ball State. Earlier in the day he also connected for three hits against Michigan.

Right-hander Davey Hackett started the game for the Bisons. He threw 5.1 innings. He gave up nine runs, eight earned, on 12 hits. He walked one and struck out eight.

Left-hander Alex Ross came on in relief and and lasted for only two-thirds of an inning. He allowed two hits and four runs. He walked three and struck out 1.

Right-hander Chad Fromm closed out the game for the Bisons. In two innings he gave up two hits and one run. He walked two and struck out three.

The big inning for Ball State, 5-10, was the sixth inning when they sent 12 batters to the plate for nine runs on six hits.

The Bisons, 5-10, will be back home at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen L. Marsh Stadium for a 4 p.m. game with Middle Tennessee State. It will be the final tune-up before playing Belmont March 19, 20 and 21 in the first Atlantic Sun series of the season.
