After more than 900 games and 15 seasons in professional baseball including stints in Major League Baseball with the Kansas City Royals, the Chicago White Sox and the Colorado Rockies, Paul Phillips joined the Lipscomb staff in the summer of 2012 hanging up his mitt as a player.

A collegiate standout at the University of Alabama, Phillips was drafted after his junior season with the Crimson Tide by the Royals in the ninth round, eight slots ahead of Mark Teixeira.  It marked the third time that Phillips had been drafted after being chosen by the Royals in the 59th round in 1995 and in the 25th round by the Astros after the 1996 season.

The backstop spent six seasons in the Kansas City farm system before making his Major League debut in 2004.  The right-handed stick hit the first of his three MLB home runs at Safeco Field in August 2005, a grand slam off Matt Thornton.

He would see the field in 58 games over the course of four seasons with the Royals before signing with the Chicago White Sox for the 2008 season and then the Colorado Rockies in 2009 and 2010.

Phillips went on to ink with the Cleveland Indians in 2010 and the Milwaukee Brewers a season later. He closed out his career hitting .333 in 2012 with the Las Vegas 51s, the AAA affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, who purchased his contract from the Brewers.

A graduate of West Lauderdale High School in Collinsville, Miss, Phillips and his wife Jimmi have two sons Ethan and Jackson.
