Ann Armes is returning for her third season as an assistant coach for Lipscomb volleyball.
“Her passion and love of the game were apparent from the first second she stepped foot on campus,” Lipscomb coach Brandon Rosenthal said. “The combination of Ann's playing experience and her relentless work ethic will be a tremendous asset to our program. Ann has a tremendous coaching career ahead of her and I couldn't be happier that LUV will always be attached with her.”
Armes, from Grand Island, Nebraska, played outside hitter, right side and middle blocker for the University of Kentucky from 2007 until 2011. She spent her freshman year as a redshirt.
She served as a team captain in 2010 and 2011. During her time as a player Kentucky made five trips to the NCAA Tournament and was a key part of the all-time winning class in school history.
Armes has received a number of accolades for her work away from the volleyball court. She was named the Southeastern Conference Volleyball Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2011. She also was named to the Dean’s List at Kentucky seven times.
She appeared on the All-Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll five times. She was also honored three times as a member of the All-SEC Good Works Community Service Team in 2008, 2010 and 2011.
In 2012 Armes was a member of the coaching staff at Transylvania University.
Armes is looking forward to continuing her coaching career as part of Rosenthal’s staff.
“Brandon is awesome,” Armes said. “I really like Lipscomb’s system. I like that all of their girls can play front or back row and that they can all handle the ball. It is just a fun system.
“I like the athletes he goes after. He gets those scrappy, little, athletic, competitive and fiery athletes.”
She has received both bachelors and master’s degrees in dietetics. She is pursuing a master’s in civic leadership at Lipscomb.
