NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Lipscomb University Athletics and Belmont University Athletics announced jointly Thursday the constitution of an all-sport Battle of the Boulevard series.
"Few schools in America can boast a rivalry laden with such tradition as Belmont and Lipscomb can with the Battle of the Boulevard,” Belmont assistant athletic director Greg Sage said. "The Battle of the Boulevard is a source of great pride, sparking passionate competition and enhancing the student-athlete experience. David Fish, Garner Goode and Jamie Gilliam deserve an enormous amount of credit for making this all-sport Battle of the Boulevard series a reality. We also could not have made this happen without the cooperation of the Student Government Associations of both institutions and their presidents Shania Jones (Belmont) and Carson Panovec (Lipscomb)"
Starting in 2017-18, each time the Bruins and Bisons compete - in any sport within the boundaries of Nashville - a single point will be awarded to the winner. The school accumulating the most points during an academic year will win the Boulevard trophy. A tie will result in 0.5 points for each program.
This year's edition begins Friday, Aug. 11 with women's soccer at E.S. Rose Park. Kickoff of the exhibition contest is slated for 6:30 p.m.
