Jason Guyette scored a season-high and game-high 17 points to pace Lipscomb's Bisons to a 73-63 victory Thursday night over Jacksonville at Allen Arena.
The win gave raised the Bisons record at Allen to 8-1 for the season. The Bisons are 11-9 overall, 6-7 in the A-Sun. Jacksonville slipped to 12-9, 8-6 in the A-Sun.
"It has been musical chairs," said Lipscomb coach Scott Sanderson. "We start a different lineup every game. It has been back-and-forth. I'm basically coaching on feel as to who I feel will play well for us."
The Bisons set the pace for the game with Brian Fisk hitting the first field goal at 18:37. The Bisons never trailed in the game, and were only tied once. Fisk scored 14 points but also had a season-high six steals along with five assists and four rebounds.
Jacksonville pulled within one point at11:25 of the first half, and would cut the lead to two and four before intermission. But the Bisons refused to break, rebuilding their advantage each time. They led by 13 points on two occasions, the last 2:35 when a lay-up by Charlie Jenney gave the Bisons a 40-27 lead.
At intermission the Bisons would hold a 41-31 edge.
In the second half the Bisons jumped out to a 57-40 lead at 12:50 on a field goal by Matt Jarboe. From 10:45 to 7:40 Jacksonville went on a 7-0 scoring run to cut the lead to nine at 60-51.
The Bisons answered with back-to-back 3-pointers from Jarboe and Guyette, but Jacksonville again started a short rally, trimming the lead to right at4:10 as Haminn Quaintance made one of two free throw attempts.
Again the Bisons responded, taking a 14-point lead at 72-58 on a lay-up by Jarboe.
Down the stretch the Bisons were outscored 5-1 but it wasn't enough for Jacksonville to turn the tide.
"There is no safe game," Sanderson said. "This was a very hard fought win for us."
The Bisons also controlled the boards by a 32-23 advantage. Cameron Robinson led the Bisons with six rebounds, tying Jacksonville 's Ljubisa Vrcelj for the game high.
"We've just got to win," Sanderson said. "All the teams besides Campbell have a chance to go to the tournament, but we have to win."
