Bisons Place Six Players In Double Figures In Rout

Lipscomb's Bisons placed six players in double figures Tuesday night in an 83-64 rout of Savannah State at Allen Arena.

"We were very unselfish," said Lipscomb coach Scott Sanderson. "We had great team play."

Savannah State struck first, scoring on a lay-up by Winston Martinez on the first possession of the game. Savannah State would not get another field goal until Mark Williams hit a 3-pointer with 10:49 left in the half.

Savannah State also added two free throws as the Bisons took an 18-7 lead, stretching the advantage to 14 points at the half, 37-23.

A little over one minute into the second half Savannah Statetrimmed the Bisons lead to 10 points at 37-27. That was as close as Savannah Statewould get. The Bisons twice led by 27 points at the 6:28 and 5:45 marks.

"My only concern is that we get up big, but then we let teams come back," Sanderson said. "We have to see the value of each possession."

Shaun Durant, Brian Fisk and James Poindexter tied for the game high with 13 points each for the Bisons. Brandon Hartwell and LaBrian Lyons each had 11 points.

Lipscomb's Cameron Robinson got the first double-double of the season for the Bisons with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

"If Cameron gets his minutes, don't be surprised to see stats like that," Sanderson said. "He's a hard-working player."

The Bisons shot 48.2 percent from the field, including hitting 11-of-25 3-points shots.

Lipscomb also held a 43-28 advantage on the boards.

Three Savannah Stateplayers scored in double figures. Mark Williams and Donald Carson each had 12 points. Brandon Emerson added 11.

The Bisons evened their record at 1-1. Savannah State , an Independent, is 0-4.

The next game is Saturday night at 7 in Allen Arena against Fisk.
