NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb track and field continues competition this weekend at the Georgia Tech Invitational. This will be the last opportunity for Lipscomb athletes to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary Round.
In addition to host Georgia Tech, Lipscomb will face athletes from Florida State, Jacksonville, ETSU, Tennessee Chattanooga, Appalachian State and Bethune-Cookman among others.
Fresh off a school-record 16:38.53s performance at last weekend’s Oxy Invitational, sophomore Dani Walker will return to action in the 5000m run at Georgia Tech. She was named Atlantic Sun Female Runner of the Week for her performance at the Oxy, which moved her to 69th in the east region. She will also compete in the 800m run.
Joining Walker in the women’s 5K will be freshmen Maggie Lawrence, Kendra Lobley and Renee’ Menzie, sophomores Tessa Hoefle and Alex Newby and seniors Louisa Van Batavia and Ashley Lehman.
Lobley ranks 80th in the region in the 5K. Lehman and Van Batavia are competing in their final meet for Lipscomb unless they qualify for the preliminary round.
Junior Geoff Musick will run the men’s 5000m run, while junior Ashton Fisher will compete in the 3000m steeplechase.
Sophomore Tucker Peabody will run the 100m and 200m dashes while freshman Colin Dempster will compete in the 400m event. Peabody won two gold medals at the A-Sun Outdoor Championships three weeks ago.
Lady Bison April Terry will get some big-meet experience at Georgia Tech. The freshman thrower will compete in the shot put and hammer throw.
