NASHVILLE, Tenn. – When the book of the storied “Battle of the Boulevard” is written, Friday night’s contest between Lipscomb and Belmont will have a section devoted to it as the Casey Alexander era begins at Allen Arena at 6 p.m. airing live on ESPN3.

Alexander will head through the tunnel for the first time leading Lipscomb to take on his alma mater including his close friend and mentor, Rick Byrd.

“It will be different, no doubt about it to be a head coach in the ‘Battle of the Boulevard’,” noted Alexander. “It will be a great experience and I’m thankful I’m on the home side tomorrow night.”

The two teams will match up for the 133rd time in the series that dates back to 1953.  Lipscomb holds an all-time 73-59 advantage.

Belmont is coming off a 2012-13 season that saw the Bruins finish atop the Ohio Valley Conference in their first year in the league with a record of 26-7.

“We know they are going to be good,” said Alexander. “You just have to look at the recent past.  Last year was supposed to be a rebuilding year for them and it was arguably the best year that they’ve ever had.

” This year they lose some good pieces off of that team.  So you could say that it’s going to be a little bit of a rebuilding year but they’ve been a great program for several years now and to expect anything else would be foolish on our part.”

Veteran play-by-play announcer Steve Selby will have the call alongside color analyst Justin Seamon on the ESPN3 broadcast. The game will also be broadcast on 94.9 Game 2 with the broadcast team of Jonathan Seamon, Jay Walton and Jared Revlett behind the microphone.
