NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb men’s basketball team is set to take the first road trip of the 2013-14 season on Friday with a 7 p.m. tilt at Southeastern conference foe Vanderbilt.

The contest held at historic Memorial Gymnasium will be the first meeting between the two foes since 2009 in a series that dates back more than seven decades.

“Despite Vandy’s limited numbers, they have all the pieces for a very good team,” said Lipscomb head coach Casey Alexander. “This will be a real challenge for us, but we’re excited about the opportunity.”

Lipscomb heads into the game off the heels of an 88-78 win over Oakland City on Monday night. The Commodores (1-0) opened the season on Tuesday night with an 86-80 win over Georgia State.

The Bisons look to snap a seven-game skid against the Commordores and pick up the first win at Memorial Gymnasium since 1939 when Lipscomb topped Vandy 40-33.

Redshirt junior guard Carter Sanderson is leading the way for the purple and gold coming off the bench and averaging 20.0 points per game through the first two games.  That figure ranks him second in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Twin forwards Malcolm and Martin Smith are also contributing early for Lipscomb averaging 14.0 and 14.5 points per night, respectively.

The game is set to air on 94.9 Game 2 presented by Jackson, with Jonathan Seamon and Jay Walton on the call. Tickets remain and can be purchased visiting http://www.vucommodores.com or call 615-322-GOLD for more information.
