The Lipscomb Bisons were unable to carry any momentum from Thursday's 30-point win in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Championship into Friday's semifinal matchup with Jacksonville. When the Lipscomb University Bisons and East Tennessee State University met on Jan. 17 in Johnson City, Lipscomb had a 15-point halftime lead but committed 27 turnovers before eventually falling in overtime. Family Day was full of fun and excitement

Saturday was Family Day with the Bisons. The afternoon was full of fun and excitement. Thanks to the 501st Legionnaire of Stormtroopers, several Star Wars characters made an appearance at Allen Arena. Larry & Bob from VeggieTales were there too. After the game kids got to see the Bisons in their locker room and shoot on the Allen Arena baskets that were lowered to eight feet.


Bisons snap losing streak defeating Mercer 84-68

It had been 21 days since the last Lipscomb victory. Five games. Five losses by a combined 20 points. The Bisons were thirsty for a victory. Saturday afternoon the Bisons delivered a total team effort in front of a “Family Day” crowd in Allen Arena snapping the losing streak with a 84-68 victory over the Mercer Bears.


Men's basketball loses 57-56 at USC Upstate

USC Upstate squeaked past the Lipscomb Bisons 57-56 Monday afternoon at the Hodges Center in Spartanburg, S.C. Adnan Hodzic led the Bisons with 17 points while Josh Slater added 15.


Hodzic scores 30 as Bisons fall 85-82 in OT to ETSU

Lipscomb jumped out of the boxes Saturday to a 15 point lead at halftime, but the Bisons turned the ball over 12 times and ETSU converted 13-of-16 free throws in the second half to catch the Bisons, force overtime, and eventually pull out the victory 85-82. Sophomore Adnan Hodzic scored a career-high 30 points in the loss.

The Lipscomb Bisons fell 79-74 to Belmont Monday evening in the Curb Event Center. Lipscomb never led, but was tied at 63 with 5:15 remaining. Sophomore Josh Slater led Lipscomb with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Bisons lose close one in overtime at Elon 79-76

ELON, N.C. – The first few minutes of each half can set the tone for a team or create a difficult spread to close. The Bisons allowed Elon to go on early runs at the beginning of both halves Monday night in a 79-76 loss at Elon. While the Bisons went on their own runs to close the gap and forced overtime, the energy expended with an injury-shortened bench provided a significant obstacle to overcome during the extra period.


Lipscomb loses to NC State 78-58

The scoreboard read 78-58 at the end of the game as the NC State Wolfpack defeated the Lipscomb University Bisons Saturday afternoon. If not for a seven minute stretch late in the first half when the Wolfpack went on a 14-0 run, the Bisons might have had an opportunity for a marquee win.


Bisons face tall challenge against NC State

The Lipscomb University Bisons will face a tall challenge in both the literal and physical sense when they face North Carolina State in Raleigh, N.C., Saturday at 1 p.m. The N.C. State Wolfpack, members of the Atlantic Coast Conference, are 6-1 on the year. Their sole loss was on the road to No. 22 Davidson 72-67. But the Bisons (4-4, 1-1 A-Sun) will also have to face a starting frontcourt that checks in at 6-9, 6-9 and 6-6 while combining to average 42.5 points and 20.3 rebounds.


Remembering Barry Brewer: Closer than a Brother

Barry Brewer, a Lipscomb Athletics Hall of Fame member, passed away on Dec. 10 after an 11-year battle with cancer. Brewer was Lipscomb men's basketball coach Scott Sanderson's best friend for the last 10 years, a proud Lipscomb graduate, and perhaps Bison athletics' most active plain-clothes cheerleader. Strong defense leads Bisons past SIU Edwardsville 70-47

The Lipscomb University Bisons have traditionally been known for their strong defense leading the Atlantic Sun in field goal percentage defense two of the last three years. This year the Bisons defense had been struggling, allowing opponents to shoot 44.3 percent for seventh in the A-Sun. But Tuesday night against SIU Edwardsville, the Bisons unveiled a new starting lineup and the defense that opponents have come to expect in a 70-47 win.


Lipscomb falls to Jacksonville 83-67

Rarely are basketball games defined in the first few ticks of the clock. Saturday afternoon the Lipscomb University Bisons turned the ball over on each of their first four possessions in an 83-67 loss at Jacksonville University. While Jacksonville only jumped to a 4-0 lead off the first turnovers, the Bisons struggled throughout the game with the quick athleticism of Jacksonville.


Early scoring propels Bisons to 69-54 win over North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Entering Atlantic Sun Conference play coming off two difficult losses, the Lipscomb University Bisons connected on early shots to propel themselves to a 69-54 win over North Florida. Lipscomb shot 68.4 percent from the field in the first half to jump to a 16 point halftime lead.


Lipscomb falls at Tennessee Tech 78-71

It was snowing outside the Eblen Center Monday night as the Lipscomb Bisons arrived for their game against Tennessee Tech. Unfortunately the cold weather converted into a chilly start for the Bisons. The Bisons found themselves chasing the Golden Eagles for the majority of the game eventually falling 78-71.


Samford frustrates Bisons in 57-50 loss

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Lipscomb Bisons traveled to Birmingham, Ala., Monday night to face the Samford Bulldogs in their first road game of the year. The Bulldogs frustrated the Bisons with their precision-style Princeton offense and pulled away in the second half to defeat Lipscomb 57-50.


Bisons defeat Southeastern Louisiana 70-58

Free throws down the stretch can propel a team to a win or allow a game to slip through a team's hands. With Tuesday's free throw struggles fresh in the Bisons minds, Lipscomb hit 17-of-20 free throws in the second period to propel itself to a 70-58 win over Southeastern Louisiana.


Bisons ink two guards, center for 2009-2010 season

Lipscomb University head coach Scott Sanderson announced the signing of two guards and a center for the 2009-2010 season. Brandon Barnes from Chapel Hill High School in Douglasville, Ga., and Zach Brown from William Mason High School in Mason, Ohio, will join the Bisons backcourt next year. Serbian native Milos Kleut of North Cobb Christian in Kennesaw, Ga., will provide another big body in the Lipscomb post.

It was a game played mainly in the post, with the teams combining for 72 points in the paint, while Lipscomb's starting center Adnan Hodzic was out nursing an injured lower leg. Senior forward Thomas Pfaff filled in beautifully for Hodzic at center scoring a career-high 20 points. He also posted his second consecutive double-double grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds.


Lipscomb dispatches Oakland City 121-54

The Lipscomb Bisons used a balanced attack to dispatch Oakland City University 121-54. Seven Bison scored in double figures with Brian Wright leading the way with 21 points. The game started on a sour note for Lipscomb when sophomore center Adnan Hodzic injured his lower leg on the opening tip.


Ard selected by Utah Flash in NBA D-League Draft

Former Lipscomb forward Eddie Ard was selected by the Utah Flash in the eighth round of the 2008 National Basketball Association Developmental League Draft. A four-year starter at Lipscomb, Ard finished his career with 1,624 points. He earned First Team All-Atlantic Sun honors his sophomore year and Second Team All-Atlantic Sun honors his junior and senior seasons.

Bisons hold off Freed-Hardeman 63-59

It may have just been an exhibition game, but the old rivalry was rekindled between two sister schools as Lipscomb held off Freed-Hardeman 63-59 in Allen Arena. The Bisons led by as many as 11 points in the second half, but the Lions roared back to reach within two points with 10 seconds left in the game. However, a couple of free-throws by Adnan Hodzic sealed the win for the Bisons.

Lipscomb sophomore guard Josh Slater recently returned from a sports mission trip to the Dominican Republic. The trip gave Slater an opportunity not only to play against the Dominican national teams and top club teams, but also an opportunity to serve underprivileged children.The trip was organized by SCORE International, a group that organizes many sports mission trips around the world each year.


Dedrick signs with Brewers to play professional baseball

Wayne Dedrick has decided to pursue a professional baseball career. Dedrick, the 30th round selection of the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, signed a contract with the club Thursday morning. Dedrick had previously signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Lipscomb University.


Indiana, NC State Highlight 2008-09 Basketball Season

Lipscomb coach Scott Sanderson jumped at the opportunity to play Indiana, not only seeking a signature game, but also to increase Lipscomb's presence in the prospect-heavy state. The Bisons are heading to Bloomington, Ind., to face off against the Hoosiers on Sunday, December 28th. Lipscomb travels to NC State on Dec. 20. Cross-town rival Belmont visits Allen Arena on Feb. 12.

Wayne Dedrick could not have had a better high school senior year. He signed a basketball scholarship from Lipscomb and lead Hillcrest High School to the state basketball title. Lipscomb coach Scott Sanderson was justifiably elated when Dedrick arrived in Nashville, enrolled in summer school and began working out, preparing for his career as a Bison. But that all changed when Dedrick was unexpectedly selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the MLB draft.

REACH USA upset in tournament

With a 3-0 record in pool play, the Reach USA team featuring Bisons Michael Teller and Brandon Brown entered the tournament in Turkey on a roll. Unfortunately the team was upset by the Hoge School of Belgium 47-43 in overtime.
