Lipscomb University men's basketball coach Scott Sanderson has announced the signing of Jason Hopkins, a 6-foot-7, 230-pound center from Edmonds, Wash.
Hopkins has played the past two seasons for Cochise College in Douglas, Ariz. He helped lead the team to a 28-4 record and the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference regular season title with 13.5 points and seven rebounds per game. He was fourth in the conference in field goal percentage and was named honorable mention All-ACCAC. As a freshman he averaged 13.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
At Edmonds-Woodway High School Hopkins was a Most Valuable Player on the freshman team and was MVP on the varsity as a junior and senior. He was an All-District first team selection, second team All-Region and honorable mention All-State. He averaged 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists and five blocks per game as a senior.
"Jason is a big, strong kid inside," said Sanderson. "He runs the floor extremely well. He has very good low post moves.
Hopkins, 19, was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. He plans to major in Education/Ministry at Lipscomb. His wife's name is Melissa, and they have one daughter, Genesis.
"Jason is very mature for his age," said Sanderson. "He will be a very good role model for our players."
He is the son of Lisa and Dan Hopkins.
