Early Stetson runs key as Bisons lose 76-68

NASHVILLE – Adnan Hodzic scored 19 points and Brian Wright added 12 for the Lipscomb University Bisons in a 76-68 loss to Stetson University Monday evening in Allen Arena.

Stetson opened the game on a 10-0 run.  The Bisons didn’t post their first points until Brian Wright connected on a jumper at 16:47.

Down 15-5 at 14:23, Adnan Hodzic nailed a jumper in the paint to start a 10-2 run to close the gap to 17-15.

Lipscomb was unable to sustain the momentum allowing Stetson to go on a 17-0 run to go up 32-15.

The Bisons turned around and responded with a 17-4 run to go into the half.   Stetson led 36-32 at half.

Lipscomb opened the second half on an 8-2 run to go up 41-37 with 16:28 left.

Lipscomb knotted it at 37 at 17:55 on a layup by Hodzic.

The Bisons took their first lead of the night on the next possession with a layup by Brandon Brown.

Stetson steadily game back extending their lead to nine with 7:59 left after Hodzic found himself on the bench with four fouls.

Lipscomb started a run back with a three-pointer by Michael Teller with 5:38 left to close Stetson’s lead to 60-54.

Michael Lusk added an and-one on the next possession to bring the Bisons within one.

But that was the closest the Bisons would come.

Lipscomb only scored three points from 5:03 to 1:10 as Stetson went up 69-62.

Sophomore Josh Slater delivered a strong performance with nine points, six rebounds, and six assists.

Lipscomb shot 24-of-49 for 49 percent.  Stetson was 25-of-63 for 39.7 percent.

Stetson out-rebounded Lipscomb 35-32.

Michael Teller and Slater led the Bisons with 6 rebounds each. 

Lipscomb turned the ball over 20 times to Stetson’s 12.  Stetson capitalized with 25 points of Lipscomb turnovers.

Stetson improves to 6-6, 3-1 in the A-Sun. Lipscomb falls to 6-7, 2-2 in the A-Sun.

Lipscomb closes out their three game homestand Thursday evening against Campbell.   Game time is 8:15 p.m.
