Volleyball picked to win the A-Sun Conference

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-The Lipscomb volleyball team has been picked to repeat as Atlantic Sun Conference Champions.

The Lady Bisons will be defending their three-time A-Sun Championships this season and have won four of the last five A-Sun championships.

“That’s exactly how I see us,” head coach Brandon Rosenthal said.  “That’s how I feel about our program.  I want the pressure of being picked first.  Everyone will be giving us their best effort.”

Only one other program has won four consecutive titles in A-Sun history, as the University of Central Florida claimed six straight (1992-97).

LU received 95 points with six first place votes, while Florida Gulf Coast University was picked second, receiving 86 points and one first place vote.  East Tennessee State University rounded out the top three receiving 83 points and three first place votes.

Senior Kaycee Green was selected on the preseason All-Atlantic Sun Team and was voted by the fans as their favorite to win the preseason Atlantic Sun Player of the Year as she edged out Nicole Baran of North Florida.  The Lady Bisons were also picked by the fans to win the conference.

“It shows her hard work and individual success,” Rosenthal said.  “She has the potential to be player of the year, but she has to recognize and see her full potential.”

Green was an All-Atlantic Sun First Team selection last season. Green also finished in the top 10 in the A-Sun in two categories, ranking fourth in the A-Sun in kills per set 3.47 and sixth in points with a 3.71 per set mark.

The Lady Bisons will host an alumni match on Friday, Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. before heading to Lexington, Ky. for their first regular season game against Long Beach State on Friday, Aug. 24th at 4 p.m. as part of the UK Invitational.
