NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With the heart of the Atlantic Sun Conference schedule approaching, Lipscomb is set to add nine games to the ESPN3 slate of events including five men’s basketball and four women’s basketball games.
The first broadcast directly from Allen Arena’s new completed broadcast center is set for Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m. when the Bisons host Kennesaw State. Mercer then comes to the “Music City” on the 26th with both ends of the doubleheader being aired.
“We continue to enjoy the strong relationship developed between ESPN and the Atlantic Sun Conference,” said A-Sun commissioner Ted Gumbart. “This is the second opportunity for us to enhance the number of basketball contests that will be delivered on the national stage, once again providing well-deserved exposure for our talented student-athletes, their teams and all A-Sun member institutions. We are delighted to partner with Lipscomb in these productions, and thank Lipscomb’s President, Dr. Randolph Lowry, and Director of Athletics Philip Hutcheson for their strong leadership on this initiative.”
A Valentine’s night clash against Stetson’s men’s squad and then a doubleheader against FGCU on the 16th open the month of February. The Lady Bisons then host Stetson on Feb. 18 before Jacksonville wraps up the ESPN3 portion of the schedule with a doubleheader on Feb. 28.
"Our partnership with ESPN has exceeded every expectation that we had going into it,” said Lipscomb directory of athletics Philip Hutcheson. “It has generated tremendous enthusiasm among our alumni, campus community, fan base, student athletes and recruits. We are looking forward to this opportunity to expand our relationship with ESPN and are confident that this partnership will continue to provide even more opportunities to increase awareness of and enthusiasm for Lipscomb University and Atlantic Sun athletics."
Having already aired three basketball games earlier in the season and the semifinals and finals of the A-Sun Volleyball tournament, Lipscomb will broadcast 14 events directly from campus in 2012-13.
Along with basketball and volleyball, exclusive content including baseball and softball will also be carried on ESPN3. Last season the championship games of the A-Sun Baseball and Softball Championships were included for the first time, and are a part of the exclusive content schedule for this season.
The Atlantic Sun and ESPN have a long-standing relationship that first began with the airing of the conference’s tournament title game back in 1989. For the fifth season, all of the conference’s CSS/A-Sun Friday Night Game of the Week contests will be available on the ESPN Full Court package and on ESPN3.
