Men's hoops opens practice with spirit and special guest

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb men’s basketball team officially opened the 2013-14 practice season on Friday afternoon with a spirited workout despite depleted numbers due to some nagging injuries to a few Bisons.

“I was pleased with the energy,” said Lipscomb head coach Casey Alexander. “Every coach in the country is going to be pleased with the energy on the first day. That part was great. We did what we could with the limited numbers have right now.

“It’s just great to get out there for an extended period of time and know that the season is officially underway.”

Before practice, the Bisons got a visit from former NBA head coach Stan Van Gundy, who talked to the team about being coachable.

“We really appreciate Stan spending some time with our guys,” said Alexander. “He genuinely cares about coaches all across the country.  It was great to have him hear and I think our guys got a lot out of it.”

Lipscomb kicks off the 2013-14 season on Halloween night hosting Freed Hardeman at 6 p.m. at Allen Arena.  To purchase tickets visit or call 615-966-HERD (4373).
