Men's hoops to host A-Sun leader FGCU Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb men’s basketball team wraps up a short, two-game homestand on Saturday afternoon hosting Atlantic Sun Conference leader FGCU at 4 p.m. at Allen Arena.

The contest will air on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN3 app with Jonathan and Justin Seamon calling the action from Don Meyer Court.

The two teams met just over two weeks ago with the Eagles claiming a 78-62 win in front of a raucous crowd at Alico Arena.   The Bisons hold a 9-5 advantage in the series including a 5-1 mark at Allen Arena.

Inside the Herd:

  • Thursday night’s 87-85 win over Stetson was win number 50 for head coach Casey Alexander.  The Bisons skipper is 50-64 in his four seasons as a head coach.
  • Already a member of the exclusive 1,000-point club, senior forward Malcolm Smith became the NCAA era career record holder for the Bisons last Saturday night hitting eight gimmes to pass Josh Slater’s previous mark of 484.  The Clarksville native ranks seventh all-time in A-Sun history.
  • Sophomore guard Josh Williams continues to lead the way for the Bisons averaging a conference second-best 21.1 points per game in league play and 17.0 points per outing overall.  He leads the team with 33 steals on the season and is second on the team lead in rebounding hauling in boards a 5.0 per game clip.
  • Sophomore guard J.C. Hampton notched 10 assists in the win against Jacksonville becoming just the second Bison to do so in the NCAA era.  Hampton joined Slater, who accomplished the feat five times and holds the single-game record of 11 helpers.  Hampton leads the A-Sun in assist-to-turnover ratio in conference contests.
  • The Bisons have tried 12 different starting lineups in 2014-15 with no fivesome getting more than six starts.  The quintet of Nathan Moran, J.C. Hampton, Josh Williams, Malcolm Smith and Brett Wishon hold the distinction of starting the most games and posting a 4-2 mark.
  • 70 seems to be the magic number for the Bisons as eight of the 11 wins have come when the Purple and Gold hold the opponent to 70 points are fewer.
  • With a start against UNF, Malcolm Smith overtook twin brother Martin in the active career games started category.  It was the 77th start for Malcolm and his 103rd appearance in Purple and Gold.   Only nine other Bisons have played in more contests in the NCAA Division I era.
