Men's hoops heads to Ohio for Men Against Breast Cancer Challenge

After returning home from the west coast to host Oakland City on Tuesday night, the Bisons hit the road again this weekend in the Men Against Breast Cancer Challenge in Oxford, Ohio.

Lipscomb takes on host Miami on Friday night followed by a Saturday contest against Northeastern and a Sunday affair with Florida Atlantic.

Friday’s contest against the Redhawks will be the first meeting between the two schools, as will Saturday’s tilt with Northeastern.

Lipscomb and FAU have met four times previously with the Bisons holding a 3-1 advantage all-time.

Inside the herd:

  • Freshman Eli Pepper was named the A-Sun Freshman Newcomer of the Week for his play in the 49th Annual Cable Car Classic. The Princeton, Kentucky native averaged 7.7 points and 11.3 rebounds per contest.
  • Junior Josh Williams was named to the Lou Henson Award preseason watch list last week. He is one of 30 players named to the preseason all-American squad. The award goes to the top mid-major player in the nation.
  • Williams was also honored as a unanimous preseason All-Atlantic Sun Conference selection by the league coaches.
  • The Bisons open this season with a whirlwind playing seven games in the first 10 games of the campaign. After opening action at the Cable Car Classic, Lipscomb returns home to host Oakland City tonight before hitting the road to Oxford, Ohio for the Men Against Breast Cancer Classic hosted by Miami (Ohio) this weekend.
  • Along with four new players on the squad, Casey Alexander has a new assistant on the bench for the first time since 2012-13 as Sean Rutigliano replaces Dwight Evans after a four-year stint at Army-West Point.
  • The Bisons added a trio of high school standouts during the early signing period as Michael Buckland from High Point, North Carolina, Kenny Bunton from Chattanooga, Tennessee and Kenny Cooper from Nashville, Tennessee inked their National Letters of Intent.
