Williams named preseason All-ASUN

LAKEPOINTE, Ga. – Lipscomb senior guard Josh Williams has been named to the 2016-17 ASUN Conference Men’s Basketball Preseason All-Conference team as announced by the league on Thursday.

The Jackson, Mississippi native made a repeat appearance on the team after earning the honor in 2015-16.  Williams was also a preseason All-American last season but was limited to just 13 games after suffering a knee injury against Princeton that sidelined him for the remainder of the season.  Despite the injury, he became the fastest player to reach 1,000 points in the NCAA Division I era for the Bisons early in the season against South Carolina.

“People should remember what a tremendous player he was and how important he was to our team,” said Lipscomb head coach Casey Alexander. “He’s had a tremendous career prior to the injury. We’re excited about having him back in the lineup.”

Williams averaged 12.6 points per game and ranked second on the team in 3-point percentage (.429) a year ago.

The preseason coaches and media polls were also announced on Thursday.  The league skippers slotted Lipscomb to finish fourth behind FGCU, North Florida and NJIT, respectively.  The media predicted a sixth-place finish for the Bisons.

“I would not have been surprised to have seen us picked anywhere from third to eighth,” said Alexander. “I think the league is more of a toss-up than it has been in a long time. I’m excited about our team and ready to get back on the court.”
