NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With the 2017 ASUN Conference Men’s Basketball Championship set to begin on Monday night at Allen Arena, Lipscomb’s Garrison Mathews and Rob Marberry have been garnered All-ASUN conference honors as announced by the league on Sunday.
“Garrison and Rob have been tremendous all year so it's great to see them recognized by the coaches in the league,” said Lipscomb head coach Casey Alexander. “For a traditionally heavy 3-point shooting team, Garrison's ability to finish or get fouled at the rim, and Rob's efficiency in the post and really made us a well-balanced offensive team. With both of these guys only sophomores, our future is obviously bright.”
A unanimous, first-team selection, Mathews leads the Bisons in scoring with a 19.8 points per game average that ranks third in the league. In league action, the sophomore guard ranks second among conference players averaging 20.3 points per game. The Franklin, Tennessee native adds 6.6 rebounds per contest in conference play as well and was one of only two unanimous selections to the team.
Marberry picked up a second-team selection for his play in his first season with the Bisons. The center ranks second on the team and 10th in the league in conference games with a 14.9 points per game average. The Nashville, Tennessee native ranks third in the league in field goal percentage at .606 and free throw shooting (.808) in ASUN games.
The selections mark the first time for the Bisons to have two honorees on the All-ASUN team since the 2010-11 season when Adnan Hodzic and Josh Slater were both first-team picks. The all-conference teams are selected by a vote of the league coaches.
The Bisons open the first round of the ASUN Championship on Monday night at 7 p.m. as the No. 2 seed in the tournament hosting No. 7 seeded NJIT. To purchase tickets visit http://www.LipscombTickets.com or call 615-966-HERD (4373).
