KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Already named a unanimous First-Team All-ASUN selection, Lipscomb sophomore guard Garrison Mathews has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) First-Team All-District Three team as announced by the organization.
“Garrison had a great year for us, not only because he led us in scoring by a wide margin, but also because he did it with great consistency,” said Lipscomb head coach Casey Alexander. “His versatility on offense really makes him a great weapon for us.”
The Franklin, Tennessee native averaged a team best 20.4 points per game that ranked third in the league. He became the fastest player in the Lipscomb NCAA era to reach the 1,000 point mark eclipsing the feat in the ASUN Semifinal game. He added 5.6 rebounds per contest and scored 20-plus points in 15 games this season.
Mathews is the first Bison to pick up the award since Adnan Hodzic claimed the honor in 2010.
He was joined on the District Three first team by Keon Johnson (Winthrop), Ahmad Thomas (UNC Ashville), Dallas Moore (North Florida) and Brandon Goodwin (FGCU).
Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC in NCAA Division I, these student-athletes and coaches represent the finest basketball players and coaches across America.
