LAKEPOINT, Ga. – Lipscomb junior guard Garrison Mathews has been named ASUN Men’s Basketball Player of the Week as announced by the league on Monday.
The Franklin, Tennessee native averaged 31 points per game last weekend as he led the Bisons to a 2-0 start on the young season. Mathews opened the season with a 37-point effort against Emory, just two points off his NCAA era single-game record at Lipscomb. He followed up that performance with a 25-point outing against Morehead State on Sunday afternoon.
The unanimous preseason All-ASUN selection shot 53.3 percent from beyond the arc hitting 8-of-15. He also shot 51.6 percent from the field overall and made 31 trips to the charity stripe where he sank 22.
The award is the second of his career.
Mathews and the Bisons head to Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Tuesday night to take on No. 25 Alabama at 7 p.m. The game will air live on the SEC Network.
