BOSTON, Mass. – On the heels of breaking his own NCAA era single game scoring record, on Saturday against Kennesaw State Lipscomb junior guard Garrison Mathews has been named the Lou Henson award Midmajor National Player of the Week by the organization.
Mathews torched the Owls for 43 points to eclipse his own record of 39 points that he set last season at Jacksonville. The Franklin, Tennessee native added a career best 13 rebounds in the contest. His performance against Kennesaw State came on the heels of a 28-point effort against Fisk on Wednesday night in which he played just 22 minutes.
Mathews averaged 35.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game as he raised his scoring average to 22.8 per game.
The award is the second of his career after earning Lou Henson Midmajor Player of the Week last season after leading the Bisons to a road sweep of FGCU and Stetson.
