LAKEPOINTE, Ga. – After scoring the most points in a league game in six years, Lipscomb junior guard Garrison Mathews has been named ASUN Conference Player of the Week as announced by the league on Monday.
After opening the week with a 28-point effort in 22 minutes against Fisk, Mathews started ASUN play with a 43-point, 13-rebound effort at Kennesaw State breaking his own program record for most points in an NCAA Division I era game for the Bisons. Mathews hit 12-of-20 from the field against the Owls and 15-of-17 at the line as Lipscomb claimed an 86-71 win.
For the week, Mathews averaged 35.5 points and 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest as he became the first Lipscomb player to claim four ASUN Player of the Week honors in one season. The honor is the fifth of his career tying Adnan Hodzic for the most by any Bison and he joins an elite club of just 19 ASUN players that have ever won five times.
Lipscomb returns to action on Thursday night taking on North Florida at 6 p.m. in Jacksonville, Florida.
