NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The weekly awards continue to roll in for Lipscomb junior guard Garrison Mathews as he has been named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week as announced by the association on Tuesday.
The honor comes on the heels of being named the Lou Henson Midmajor Player of the Week and ASUN Conference Player of the Week on Monday. The Franklin, Tennessee native opened the week with a 28-point effort against Fisk before setting the school NCAA Division I era scoring record with a 43 points at Kennesaw State on Saturday. Mathews added a career best 13 rebounds against the Owls as the Bisons opened ASUN play with a win. He connected on 12-of-20 from the floor and 15-of-17 from the charity stripe.
For the week, Mathews averaged 35.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest. On the season, Mathews leads the ASUN with a 22.8 points per game average that ranks 12th nationally.
The Bisons head to the "Sunshine State" on Thursday to take on North Florida at 6 p.m. in Jacksonville, Florida.
