Marberry claims first career ASUN Player of the Week honor

LAKEPOINT, Ga. – Lipscomb men’s basketball junior forward Rob Marberry was named ASUN Conference Co-Player of the Week on Monday. It is the first time in his career that Marberry has been named the league’s Player of the Week.

Marberry helped guide the Bisons to a pair of big wins over the weekend, beating Jacksonville 82-59 last Thursday, and then posting an 82-75 win over North Florida at Allen Arena on Saturday.

In the two contests, Marberry averaged 24.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists while connecting on 73.3 percent of his field goals (22-of-30).

In the win over Jacksonville, he scored 10 points and grabbed three rebounds in 23 minutes of action. The Nashville native then followed that performance with the best game of his career against the Ospreys. He poured in a career high 39 points, pulled down five boards and dished two assists to help Lipscomb past UNF for the first time in five meetings. Marberry drained 18 of his 24 field goal attempts to shoot 75.0 percent from the floor.

He tallied 27 of his 39 points in the second half on 12 made baskets. The win moved the Bisons into sole possession of second place in the ASUN standings with three regular season games to go.

In ASUN play, Marberry trails only teammate Garrison Mathews (22.5) in scoring at 20.4 points per game.

Marberry shares the Co-Player of the Week honor with Kennesaw State's Nick Masterson, who 24.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists. 

Lipscomb heads to the Sunshine State this week for its final road trip of the regular season, battling Stetson in DeLand at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15 before taking on ASUN champion Florida Gulf Coast at 6 p.m. Saturday in Fort Myers. Both games can be seen live on ESPN3.
