NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb men’s basketball team officially kick off practice for the 2018-19 season last week at Allen Arena.
The Bisons are led by sixth-year head coach and 2018 Skip Prosser Man of the Year - Casey Alexander.
Alexander guided the program to a 23-10 record and its first-ever ASUN Tournament title and NCAA Tournament berth last season. The 23 victories were the most in the program’s NCAA era and it marked the first time the Bisons posted back-to-back 20-win seasons.
Lipscomb returns its top six scorers from a season ago and in total will bring back a core that combined for 2,479 points and 91.5 percent of the team’s scoring. They were led by two-time ASUN first-teamer Garrison Mathews who poured in a league-high 21.7 points per game while also bringing down 5.5 boards.
Big man and fellow ASUN first-teamer Rob Marberry chipped in 15.9 points and 5.8 rebounds, while point guard Kenny Cooper added 10.1 points and 3.9 assists.
As a group, the Bisons return the most career points among all Division I teams at a combined 6,040…and it’s not even close. Kansas State, out of the Big 12, is the next closest with 4,650.
Lipscomb opens up the regular season on Nov. 6 when Sewanee visits Allen Arena at 7:15 p.m. The Bisons are slated to face three power-5 opponents on the road in nonconference action – TCU (Nov. 20), Louisville (Dec. 12) and Clemson (Dec. 30).
