With more than 25 years in college basketball under his belt, Dwight Evans joined the Lipscomb men’s basketball staff in June 2013 after two seasons on Casey Alexander’s staff at Stetson.
Having guided a number of players to the NBA ranks, Evans' primary responsibilities with the Bisons are coaching the post players on the court and overseeing all academic related items. He also contributes to the entire staff's recruiting, coaching, and scouting efforts.
“Dwight's a true professional with a lot of experience that will serve our players well,” said Alexander. “We're lucky to have a coach of his caliber.”
Prior to joining the Stetson staff, Evans served as the associate head coach at South Carolina State following a stint at Central Florida where he helped guide the Knights to three NCAA Tournament appearances in eight seasons.
Evans has also spent time on the coaching staff at Missouri, Florida International and South Alabama where he helped guide the Jaguars to a pair of 20-win seasons and an NIT appearance.
A 2002 inductee into the Birmingham Southern College hall of fame, Evans was an all-conference performer and team captain for the Panthers. Following his playing days, Evans went on to join the coaching staff for BSC and helped lead the team to the 1995 NAIA national championship and a 141-15 record in five seasons in the “Magic City”.
Evans began his coaching career at Missouri from 1988-92 under hall of fame Head Coach Norm Stewart. The Tigers won two Big Eight tournament titles, one regular season crown, and three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 run in 1989.
A native of Queens, N.Y., Evans graduated from Birmingham-Southern in 1984 with a degree in Business Administration.
