NEW ORLEANS. – After a strong weekend of competition for the Lipscomb cross country teams, both men’s and women’s squads moved up in the South Region rankings as announced by the United State Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association.
The women’s team moved to fifth place after finishing second at the Vanderbilt Invite, beating other regionally ranked squads of Mississippi, Mississippi State, Southern Miss and Belmont.
The men’s team climbed up to sixth place after winning the Vanderbilt Invite. The men beat other regionally ranked squads of Mississippi State, ETSU, Belmont, Memphis and Middle Tennessee State.
“It’s nice to get attention for what our programs are doing,” Bill Taylor, director of cross country and track and field, said. “We’ve had a strong start to the season. Despite the strong start, both teams have a lot of room for improvement, which is very exciting.
“The rankings indicate we are in the mix in the region. It’s up to us what we do with that.”
The women are the only Atlantic Sun Conference team to be ranked. The men are joined by ETSU, who is ranked 10th.
Lipscomb returns to the course Saturday at the Eric Anderson Invite in Spokane, Wash.
