NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Lipscomb men’s cross country team was one of 147 Division I teams to achieve 2011 USTFCCCA All-Academic cross country team status, the coaches association announced Wednesday. With a 3.44 team grade-point average, Lipscomb earned the 22nd-highest team GPA in the country.
Wisconsin earned cross country scholar team of the year after winning the school’s fifth NCAA cross country crown. The University of Tennessee Chattanooga earned the highest team GPA for the 2011 year with a 3.81 average. The Bison finished behind prestigious academic universities such as Brown, Harvard, Vanderbilt and Yale.
Juniors Geoff Musick and Isaiah Greer were both named Academic All-Atlantic Sun Conference in the fall. Musick’s 3.94 GPA was the highest among men’s Academic All-Conference honorees.
The men’s squad led the A-Sun in GPA at 3.44. Mercer (3.41), Kennesaw State (3.22) and Belmont (3.21) were the other A-Sun schools on the USTFCCCA list.
“Great job by the men to place in the top-25 nationally again,” Lipscomb head coach Bill Taylor said. “I’m proud of them for leading the Atlantic Sun, too.
“Congratulations to all the teams in our conference who earned this honor; it just shows how good our conference is. Lipscomb cross country continues to achieve great things in the classroom and outside the classroom. We are very proud of our progress and excellence in all areas.”
