Men's XC competes in the NCAA South Regional

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-The NCAA South Regional will be another step in the maturation of four young members of the Lipscomb men’s cross country team.

Jared Wingerter, Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year, and a member of the A-Sun All-Freshman Team; will be joined by Daniel Gardner and Fidel Leon, also members of the A-Sun All-Freshman Team. Rounding out the list of youth is sophomore Ryan Gadsey. Ben Wright, a senior, is the lone upperclassman. Wright is a member of the A-Sun All-Academic Team.

Lipscomb coach Bill Taylor just wants to see his five runners finish as high as they possibly can as they tackle the 10-K course in Tallahassee, Fla., Friday morning. The race is hosted by Florida State. Lipscomb is one of seven teams competing in the South Region.

“The length of the race is going to be a challenge for the men,” Taylor said. “That is also why we are bringing them.

"We want them to get experience at a regional meet. We also want them to experience running a 10-K.”

The Bisons finished seventh in the A-Sun Championship. USC Upstate, the conference champion, is competing in the Southeast Regional in Charlotte, N.C.

“We don’t have any expectations for the men,” Taylor said. “It is going to be an experience gathering session to build our future to let them be part of a huge meet and to get a 10-K in.

“We want them to learn from this. I think our men are going to be very good in the near future. This is a part of the process of getting to the next level. “
