MACON, Ga. – The third coaches poll for the Atlantic Sun Conference cross country season saw the Lipscomb women’s squad remain in first place and the men’s squad hold second place.
“It’s always nice to get recognition,” Bill Taylor, director of cross country and track and field, said. “The teams work hard and have had a great season so far.”
The women continued to be a unanimous choice in first place, receiving all 10 first place votes for a perfect 100 points.
North Florida was second with 88 points while Jacksonville and ETSU received 72 and 71 points, respectively.
The Lady Bisons rank fifth in the South Region of the USTFCCCA Regional Poll. LU is the only A-Sun squad in the region poll.
The men remained in second place but gained ground on first place ETSU, receiving six first place votes and sitting just two points out of the top spot. ETSU received just three first place votes while USC Upstate, sitting fourth, received the last first place.
“I was surprised by the men’s poll since we beat ETSU two weeks ago and are ranked higher in the regional poll,” Taylor said.
“However, we barely beat ETSU, and I think our teams are very evenly matched. It shows our men that they have a lot of work to do still to gain respect. It’s a motivator for us and a reminder that the conference title is determined in the championship, not in the polls.”
The Bisons continue to be ranked above ETSU in the South Region Poll. The Purple and Gold are sixth while ETSU is ninth as the only two A-Sun squads in the poll.
Both squads return to action Oct. 4 at the Notre Dame Invite in South Bend, Ind.
