NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Three Lipscomb track and field athletes were named to the Capitol One Academic All-District First Team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday.
Seniors Tucker Peabody and Tessa Hoefle along with junior Kaitlyn Llewellyn were awarded the honor for their outstanding success both on the track and in the classroom.
The students were named to the District 3 team, which includes athletes from schools in Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
To qualify all athletes should be of sophomore athletic and academic standing, compete in at least half of the team’s competitions, and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.30 on a 4.00 scale.
Peabody upheld a 3.45 GPA majoring in biology. He plans on attending medical school.
Hoefle and Llewellyn possess perfect 4.0 GPAs. Hoefle is an English major while Llewellyn is an exercise science major.
Peabody and Hoefle also were named James R. Byers Award winners this year, the highest honor a Lipscomb athlete can receive.
All three team members have produced superb results in their careers at Lipscomb.
Peabody won the 200 meters at the 2014 Atlantic Sun Indoor Championships logging a time of 21.69.
He also claimed two indoor school records in 2014. He broke the 60-meter record with his time of 6.84 and the 200-meter record posting a time of 21.05.
Hoefle contributed to the distance medley relay team’s win at the Emory Crossplex Invitational finishing in 12.16:58.
She also played a key role in the women’s cross country championship reign for the last three years. She is a three-time A-Sun Scholar Athlete of the Year, being the only athlete to hold the honor since its inception in 2011.
Llewellyn won the 3000-meter steeplechase at the University of Tennessee challenge after clocking in at 11:10.62.
She also finished 17th at the A-Sun Cross Country Championships.
Hoefle has earned All-District honors two years in a row. Llewellyn and Peabody enjoy the achievement for the first time.
All three will be on the ballot for Academic All-America honors to be selected in June.
