NASHVILLE – For the first time in program history, the Lipscomb women’s cross country team has garnered votes in the top-30 national rankings as conducted by the USTFCCCA poll on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Bisons received three votes in the women’s coaches’ poll, and remained ranked third in the South Region behind Vanderbilt and Alabama.
"While we don't pay attention to the polls normally, we do enjoy each time we make a little program history,” Lipscomb Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Bill Taylor said. “It's nice to get national recognition and reinforcement for our belief that we are one of the top programs in the nation. I hope we get into the top 30 in the next few weeks.”
On the men’s side, the Bisons rank ninth in the South Region, just behind Georgia Tech and Auburn.
"That being said, the polls don't matter beyond the PR value,” Taylor said. “We just want to get better each week and give our best each day. We want to compete hard, and let all the other stuff take care of itself."
The cross country squad will be back in action this weekend at the Commodore Classic on Saturday. The men will start at 9 a.m. followed by the women at 10.
