NASHVILLE – After a successful team performance at both the Greater Louisville Classic and the Foothills Invite over the weekend, the Lipscomb women’s cross country team has earned a program-best 14 votes in the USTFCCCA National Poll, placing them just outside the top 30 at 34.
"We always say that the polls don't matter, but I have to admit that it is fun to see our name on the national list, and to keep increasing the number of votes we get,” Lipscomb Director of Cross Country and Track and Field said. “Although votes past 30 are technically just 'Receiving Votes', it's natural for us to count and see that we are 34th in the nation for NCAA Division I.”
The Lady Bisons, who received national votes for the first time ever in September, are also currently ranked third in the South Region.
"It's just a nice reminder of how far we have come so quickly, and how close we are to the goals this program and these teams have been striving for,” Taylor said. “The things I've been saying we are going to do, are becoming reality.
“It wasn't too many years ago that nobody had heard of Lipscomb cross country. Now we are there, listed with the best in the nation. We have work to do still, and we will continue building and moving this program forward, but it's a nice benchmark along the way."
Although they have not received any national votes, the men’s squad is also ranked in the South Region at eighth.
Lipscomb cross country will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 16 when they travel to Alabama for the Crimson Classic.
