Cross country set to compete in Crimson Classic

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb cross country squad hits the ground running this weekend at the Crimson Classic for its final meet before the Atlantic Sun Championships.

With the A-Sun Championships coming up on Oct. 30th, the Bisons will use this weekend’s meet as a primer for the postseason.

"Alabama is a solid meet with some great regional and national competition,” Lipscomb Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Bill Taylor said. “It will be good to test out the region course.”

Alabama will be hosting the NCAA South Regional on Nov. 14th, a race the Bisons are looking to qualify for again this season.

The men’s squad is sending its top runners to compete in the Crimson Classic, while the women are holding back some of their top competitors.

"The men will be at full strength,” Taylor said. “They've been improving and really want to take the next step this weekend.

"I think we are not going to race our top seven women this weekend. We had a tough stretch of three big meets in a row and will get more out of training right now. Workouts are going great, and I want to keep building on that.”

With nine spots allotted for the conference championships, Taylor and his staff have to determine which runners will fill those slots in the coming weeks. This weekend’s race will be key in determining which athletes grab the final few spots.

"The women we run are still good,” Taylor said. “We have a lot of depth. We get nine entries at conference, so this meet will determine the last two spots for the women and the final roster for the men."
