MACON, Ga. – Lipscomb junior Jake Poyner snagged the final Atlantic Sun Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week award of the season, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Poyner, who finished 13th out of 218 runners at the Crimson Classic on Friday, ran a time of 24:53.73. The mark was the fastest time in the 8K for the week.
The Indiana native’s performance helped propel the Bisons to a third place finish against top-notch competition. Out of the 23 squads in the race, the Purple and Gold scored higher than 12 regionally-ranked team.
The honor was the first of Poyner’s Bison career, and the second for the Lipscomb men’s team this fall.
The Bisons and Poyner wrapped up the regular season over the weekend and now have their sights set on their third-straight A-Sun Championship title. The men's 8K races begins at 8:30 a.m. on October 30 in Jacksonville, Fla. at the John Hoyt Golf Learning Center.
