NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb cross country team earned the top spots in the both the Men’s and Women’s ASUN Preseason Coaches Poll on Wednesday as announced by the league offices.
The women’s squad earned 78 points, including six first-place votes to take the top slot.
Newcomer Liberty was close behind with 71 points and the other three first-place votes.
Junior Courtney Brenner was also voted the Women’s Preseason Runner of the Year.
The Lady Bisons have won six of the last seven conference titles, but lost last season’s by one point to end the winning streak. Brenner, the team’s top runner, missed the ASUN final last season after a stellar regular season.
On the men’s side, Lipscomb tied North Florida atop the Preseason Coaches Poll.
The Bisons tallied 73 total points and four first-place votes, while the Ospreys notched just three first-place votes. Liberty received the remaining two first-place votes.
The Lipscomb men’s squad won the 2017 ASUN title, which was the group’s fifth in the last six seasons.
Both squads also placed in the USTFCCCA’s Preseason South Region Poll. The men were voted seventh, one spot ahead of Belmont and three ahead of North Florida. The women were voted 13th, the only ASUN squad on the list.
Lipscomb kicks off the cross country season on Friday at 5 p.m. at the Belmont Opener.
