Cross country back in Nashville for Commodore Classic

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb cross country team will get one last chance to run in front of a home crowd this weekend as the Bisons are set to compete in the Commodore Classic on Saturday at Percy Warner Park.

The men’s race will begin at 9 a.m. with a field of 18 teams, followed by the women’s race at 10 a.m. featuring 21 programs.

The competition is expected to be strong, with teams from the SEC, the Big Ten, and the ACC including: Illinois, Louisville, and Ohio State. There will also be several local squads competing: Middle Tennessee, Belmont, Tennessee State, Western Kentucky, Tennessee Tech, and host Vanderbilt.

Last season at the Commodore Classic, the men’s team finished in third overall, and the women took fifth place.

Lipscomb is coming off of a dominant performance heading into the meet. Last Saturday, the Purple and Gold won both the men’s and women’s team titles at the Fordham Invite in New York City.

Junior Courtney Brenner and sophomore Silas Griffith also won the individual titles on route to winning the ASUN Runner of the Week awards. It was Brenner’s seventh win and Griffith’s first.

In the latest USTFCCA Regional Rankings, the Lipscomb men’s squad place eighth, while the women’s squad was voted 12th.

Lipscomb has already raced at the Percy Warner Park course this season during the Belmont Opener, however only 11 Bisons competed, so this will give many runners a chance to race in Nashville for the only time this season.
