Cross country headed to Florida for NCAA South Regional

TALLAHASSEE, Florida – The Lipscomb cross country team will be making its way down to Tallahassee, Florida on Friday as the Bisons take on the NCAA South Region Championships.

The women’s 6K race is set to begin at 8:30 eastern time/7:30 central, while the men’s 10K kicks off an hour later at 9:30/8:30.

Both squads will face stout competition. The women will take on four nationally-ranked squads (Florida, Ole Miss, Georgia, Georgia Tech) and 13 regionally-ranked squads, while the men will face two nationally-ranked squads (Ole Miss, Tennessee) and 13 regionally-ranked squads.

The women were ranked seventh in the most recent regional poll, and the men placed 13th.

 

THE ROAD TO THE REGIONAL:

The women’s squad is coming off their seventh ASUN title in eight seasons, the most prolific run of championships in conference history.

Junior Courtney Brenner won the women’s individual title with a time of 17:42.7. She was also named the ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Wednesday.

Joining Brenner on the All-Conference teams were senior Brooke Kingma (First) and sophomores Kayla Rudie (First), Lauren Flynt (Second), and Grace Lahey (Second).

The men’s squad placed third overall with sophomore Silas Griffith landing a First-Team All-Conference spot and Zach Israel making the Second-Team.
