NASHVILLE - The Lipscomb cross country squad kicked off the 2019 fall campaign at the Belmont Opener on Friday night as the men placed second and the women finished fifth.
The men’s team finished with a score of 76, placing them behind only host Belmont with 30 points.
Freshman Ronald Kigen led the way for the Bisons in his Purple and Gold debut, placing third overall in a time of 15:19.42.
Fellow freshman Brady Johnson finished seventh with a time of 15:37.94.
Next up were more freshmen for Lipscomb, Brian Risse (16:25.57) and Lewis Ngwenya (16:35.02) came in 23rd and 25th.
Sophomore Josh Hinkle (16:38.25) closed out the Lipscomb top five in 27th.
On the women’s side, the Lady Bisons placed fifth with 140 points. Vanderbilt took the first spot with 21.
Junior Lindsey Marriott grabbed the Lady Bisons top spot with a time of 19:48.01 in 25th place.
She was followed by sophomore Ayse Allison (19:53.02) and senior Haley Humphey (20:10.42) in 27th and 30th place.
The Bisons next race will be on Sept. 14, and it will also be in Nashville. Lipscomb will take part in the Commodore Classic hosted by Vanderbilt. The men’s race is set to start at 8:45 a.m. with the women’s to follow at 9:30.
