Cross country set for local Commodore Classic

NASHVILLE - The Lipscomb cross country squad is back in action this weekend as the Bisons make the trip to Percy Warner Park for the Commodore Classic on Saturday. 

The start times have been revised from their original mark, with the men now kicking off at 8:30 a.m. and the women at 9:15. 

The race marks the second straight meet for the Bisons in Nashville at Percy Warner. Lipscomb began the 2019 campaign at the Belmont Opener with the men placing second and the women finishing fifth. 

The Purple and Gold will be sending 24 runners, several of which will be making their season debut. 

On the men’s side, it will be Brody Beiler, Owen Glogovsky, Josh Hinkle, Zach Israel, Brady Johnson, Ronald Kigen, Sam Kuhn, Brent Leber, Scott McKenzie, Brian Risse, Patrick Smith, and Benjamin Underwood. 

Suiting up for the women will be Madison Allie, Ayse Allison, Lauren Flynt, Haley Humphrey, Brooke Kingma, Haley Kling, Grace Lahey, Mollie Longmire, Lindsey Marriott, Maddie Moody, Grace Oetting, and Hannah Owens.

The field will be competitive, featuring teams from the SEC and the Big Ten, as well as local squads, including Auburn, Georgia, Indiana, Ohio State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Belmont, Middle Tennessee, Xavier, Western Kentucky, Louisville, and Tennessee Tech.

The Purple and Gold entered the season with high expectations. The women’s squad, winners of seven of the past eight ASUN titles, were voted the top team in the ASUN Preseason Poll and slotted in at eighth in the USTFCCCA Southeast Regional Poll.

The men, winners of four of the past six ASUN crowns, were picked third in the conference preseason poll and 15th in the Southeast Regional Poll.
