ATLANTA - The Lipscomb cross country squad nearly swept the ASUN weekly awards as the Bisons took home three of the four conference honors after a top-notch performance at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday.
Brent Leber was named the Men’s Runner of the Week, Brooke Kingma was named the Women’s Runner of the Week, and Ronald Kigen was named the Men’s Freshman of the Week.
NJIT’s Laila Hill-Glover (Women’s Freshman of the Week) was the only non-Bison to an award this week.
For the second consecutive meet, Leber turned in the top performance for the Purple and Gold. Leber finished eighth out of 373 runners with a blazing time of 23:49.8.
His time set a school record in the 8K in what was only his second race back after a nearly two-and-a-half year medical absence. It was the redshirt-junior’s second Runner of the Week honor of the season and third of his career.
Kingma earned the top time for the Lady Bisons on Saturday, placing ninth with a time of 17:26.3. She helped the Lady Bisons finish in second place overall as a team, behind only first-place Middle Tennessee, and ahead of 37 squads, including host Louisville, Xavier, and Marquette.
This is the senior’s third Runner of the Week honor. She previously received one nod each in cross country and indoor track and field.
Kigen notched the Freshman of the Week honor after helping the men’s squad to a fourth-place finish with a time of 24:37.0, the third-best on the squad and the 51st-place finish in the overall race.
Lipscomb will be back in action on Oct. 18 for the UAB Blazer Invite and Oct. 19 for the Pre-National Invitational.
