JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Lipscomb Bisons golf team is back in competition Monday and Tuesday after two weeks off from tournament play.
Lipscomb is one of nine teams participating in the 21st annual Grub Mart Golf Intercollegiate hosted by Jacksonville State at the Silver Lakes Golf Course. Teams will play 36 holes Monday and 18 on Tuesday.
“The team is excited,” said Will Brewer, Lipscomb’s Director of Golf. “We seem to be gelling and coming together for our final two events prior to the Atlantic Sun Conference championship.”
Blanton Farmer is averaging 73.35 for eight tournaments, a total of 23 rounds. Alex Cox is averaging 76.68 in seven tournaments over 19 rounds.
“As seniors Blanton and Alex are motivated to compete,” Brewer said. “They are nearing the end of their collegiate careers.”
Junior Dustin Wilder has an average of 76.09 in 23 rounds in eight tournaments. Junior Alex Cox is averaging 74.26 over 23 rounds in eight tournaments.
Joining Lipscomb and Jacksonville State in the tournament are Morehead State, Eastern Kentucky, Northern Kentucky, North Alabama, Columbus State, Armstrong Atlantic State and George Washington.
After a practice round Sunday afternoon Brewer is confident his team is up to the challenge of the course.
“It is strong,” Brewer said. “Typically it should favor players who strike the ball well.
“The greens are very undulating. We will need to be very sharp on and around the greens. The course will favor those who hit their approach shots well and are able to negotiate the greens and surroundings.”
