Famer and Cox leading Bisons charge at Big Blue Intercollegiate

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb Bisons are in a three-way tie for second after two rounds of the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate.

The Bisons have a two-round total of 569 along with Murray State and SIU-Edwardsville Monday.

Southern Illinois is leading the tournament with a 567 at the Presidents’ Reserve at Hermitage Golf Club.

Will Brewer, LU’s director of golf, is not letting his team get overly excited about their placement in the tournament.

“We always talk about it being a 54-hole tournament,” Brewer said. “We don’t need to get too excited about where we are after two rounds.”

LU rallied from a tie for sixth after the first 18 holes. They completed the second round with a 282, tying with SIU Edwardsville for the lowest score.

“I am very pleased with the effort, but I am not satisfied,” Brewer said. “We are definitely going in the right direction. We still could have made more putts today, but I am sure everybody could say that.”

Lipscomb seniors Blanton Farmer and Alex Cox are tied for ninth with scores of 140. Both shot first round 69s followed by second round 71s.

“I am very pleased with Alex,” Brewer said. “He and Blanton played very steady all day.”

Dustin Wilder is tied for 19th with a 143 (73, 70).

“Dustin birdied the last three holes to shoot two under in the afternoon,” Brewer said.

Paul Kleine-Kracht is tied for 59th with a 150 (76, 74). Ryan Terry is tied for 68th with a 152 (82, 70).

“Ryan was up and down, but played well in the second round,” Brewer said.  “For the last 10 holes Paul was two under.”

The 54-hole tournament ends Tuesday.

“What I like is that everybody is gelling,” Brewer said. “What I hoped would happen is happening,

“The golf course is not difficult. We are going to have to play a very good round to be in contention. And I think we are ready to do that.”
