Men's golf finishes eighth at A-Sun Tourney

BRASELTON, Ga. – The Lipscomb Bisons finished in eighth place in the Atlantic Sun Conference Golf Tournament.

The Bisons shot a third round 305 Tuesday for a 929 overall score. They finished five strokes behind Florida Gulf Coast in sixth and three strokes behind USC Upstate in seventh at The Legends Chateau Elan Resort.

“I’m very pleased and very encouraged by their performance and by their desire to do well,” said Will Brewer, LU director of golf.  “We are very, very close to making a huge leap.

“They are getting better and that is all I can ask. They are improving every day. It is kind of like being a play away in football. We are a putt away here or a shot away there from being very competitive this season.”

Dustin Wilder closed out the tournament with a 75. He finished tied for ninth with a three-round score of 226 over 54 holes. Wilder was a plus-2 overall in par 3 scoring. He was a plus-5 in par 4 scoring. He birdied seven holes and was par on 33.

“Dustin started with a triple bogey on the first hole he played and ended up with a 75,” Brewer said. “I was very pleased with his play all week. He was very steady.

“He played aggressive and that is what we have been working on all season. He struck the ball well. He fought well.”

Ryan Terry tied for 28th. He shot a third round 77 for a three-round total of 234, tying him for 28th. Terry was a plus-nine in par 4 scoring and a plus-2 in par 5 scoring.

Paul Kleine-Kracht tied for 32nd after carding a third round 77. His three-round total was 236. Kleine-Kracht was even in par 5 scoring.

Seniors Blanton Farmer and Alex Cox closed out their college careers with the tournament.

Farmer finished in a tie for 35th with a 237 (77, 84, 76). Cox tied for 47th with a 245 (82, 82, 81). Cox finished with six birdies.

“I wish we had some more tournaments to play,” Brewer said. “We are continuing to get better.”
