Men's golf positions themselves to make run in final round

On Monday the Lipscomb men’s golf team played two rounds, 36 holes, of the Derek Dolenc Invitational.

As a team the Bisons posted a total score of 15-over par 591. That places the Bisons fifth in a 12-team field, just 11 shots off the leader, Belmont, who shot a four-over par 580.

Junior transfer Caston Roberts led the way for the Bisons after firing rounds of 70-74 and is at even-par for the tournament. Roberts first round score of two-under par 70 was only one shot off his career best 69.

Senior Dustin Wilder finished three shots behind Roberts with scores of 74-73 and put him in a tie for 13th overall.

Two freshmen, Stoney Crouch and Sydney Chung, saw their first-ever collegiate action and posted respectable scores. Crouch started the day hot with an even-par 72 in the first round before shooting an 81 in the second.

Chung proved to be consistent in his play with rounds of 74-75 while teammate Tyler Leroy, senior, posted 77-79 for the day.

The Bisons top-three scorers found their way into the top-25 overall.

Mikey Feher, freshman, made the trip to Sunset Hills Country Club as an individual and tallied the second lowest round of the tournament with a four-under 68 in the first round.

In the second round Feher fired a 75 to tie with Scott Barnhart (71, 72) of Belmont for the lead in individual play.

The low round of the tournament belongs to Mitchell Homb of SIU Edwardsville who posted a five-under par 67 in the first round.

The third and final round of the invitational will tee off Tuesday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

Sunset Hills Country Club is a par-72 course that stretches over 6,645 yards and is located just east of St. Louis.
