HOPKINSVILLE, Tenn. -The Lipscomb men’s golf team shot a three-round total of 878 to finish the F&M APSU Intercollegiate in seventh place.
“Today was not a good day for us,” coach Will Brewer said. “We didn’t putt well at all and we let the wind and conditions get to us a little bit today. The pin locations were tucked and that made it harder to find birdies today.”
Lipscomb was led by three freshmen and they all finished inside the top 42.
Mikey Feher paced the Bisons after posting a five-under par for the tournament. On Monday, Mikey shot a 67-70 and was in third place overall. On Tuesday he shot his first round over par of the week at 74 and finished tied for fourth.
“Mikey had a great tournament,” Brewer said. “For him to finish at five-under par on this course in these conditions as a true freshman, I am very pleased.”
Sydney Chung finished tied for 21st after posting rounds of 70-74-74=218.
“Sydney had a good tournament for us,” Brewer said. “A couple of shots here and there, and he would have had a great tournament.”
Stoney Crouch finished four shots behind Chung with a 222. In his first tournament since early September, Crouch posted 71-73-78 and tied for 42nd overall.
Paul Klein-Kracht placed 65th with scores of 76-74-77.
Dustin Wilder had been consistent all year, with scores ranging from 72-74. At the APSU Intercollegiate though, he posted his three-highest rounds of the year, 79-77-80. His 236 total put him 82nd.
“It is always a learning process with a young team,” Brewer said. “We will learn a lot from this, make changes and see what we have to work on to get better.
“We learn more in life when we struggle and we struggled in the last two rounds. We will get better.”
Dowling Armstrong played as an individual and finished tied for 61st. After shooting a 79 in round one, Armstrong battled back and shot even-par 72 in round two and three-over 75 in round three for a total of 226.
Belmont walked away as the tournament champions with an 848 (278, 277, 293).
Ashton Van Horne of Belmont won the medalist with a 205. He was the only player to shoot in the 60s in all three rounds.
The Bisons return to action Oct. 28-29 for the Pirate Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina in Greenville, N.C.
