Men's golf in striking distance heading to final round

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Lipscomb men’s golf team closed day one of the First Tee Classic in fourth place at Chenal Country Club.

Lipscomb posted a two-round total of 590 on Monday. The Bisons opened with a 301 in the opening round before torching the links with a 289 on the last 18 holes.

Louisiana-Monroe leads McNeese State by just two strokes with a 584 and the tournament lead.

Caston Roberts and Sydney Chung paced the Bisons on Monday with a pair of 145s. They both will enter the final round on Tuesday at 1-over-par and in a tie for seventh.

Roberts fired 76 in round one, but turned it around and carded a 3-under-par 69 in the second round.

Chung played consistently in both rounds, shooting 73-72.

Stoney Crouch fired rounds of 74-77 on Monday. Crouch’s 151 was good enough to put him in a tie for 25th.

Senior Dustin Wilder will enter Tuesday in a tie for 32nd. He posted a 78 on the opening 18 holes, but bettered his score with a 74 in round two for a 152 daily total.

Paul Klein-Kracht shot 80-74 for a 154 total. He is in 44th.

Lipscomb trails Louisiana-Monroe by six strokes and will begin the third and final round with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
